Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Hellthorn (Nether plant)

This idea focuses on a new plant for the Nether, hellthorn (The name isn't really that important). Hellthorn is a plant that generates in patches and up to 2 blocks high in nether wastes. The plant is dark grey with  distinct orange thorns and no leaves or flowers. Like berry bushes, players can walk through patches of hellthorn but take damage doing so. In addition to taking damage, there is a chance of being set on fire.

Destroying the plant with shears has a chance to a single hellthorn item along with the block item. This item can be used in brewing to create the hellfire potion, a potion that inflicts target with a new status effect that sets them on fire. Uniquely, this status effect is not put out when jumping into water unlike natural fire. Going into water with the effect active produces the same sounds and particles as when lava touches water.

    Netherthorn
    Hell and the Nether are like the same thing
    But nether is more Minecraft like
    Although I love the name it doesn't feel like Minecraft
