Add a totem boss that requires totems to find and defeat. For example you, you might need a certain totem to enter a certain location. You might need another totem to find where the boss is. You'll need the totem of undying to survive its opening move that is undodgable and will kill you without that totem. It could also need a totem to get pass its invincibility phase. This would give players a grand quest to collect totems from across the world. And quest are fun. For a potential prize, you maybe add something like a totem of resurrection, It revives the nearest dead mob or player if they haven't respawn. They will be treated as an undead mob for 5 minutes. This means they won't drown but will sink. They are vulnerable to sunlight. They take extra damage from smite. And they heal from harming but take damage from healing. The last bit is completely optional.
