Something I notice whenever a new update releases is that resource packs take a long time to update back to a complete state. There are almost always textures that creators forget to add to the pack because they're not tied to major features, or textures that get broken because their in-game names were changed, seemingly arbitrarily. Combing through the jar to find all of these changes is tedious and frustrating, so resource pack creators are often left relying on the community to find and report these issues in their packs.
What I'd like to propose, to make the lives of resource pack creators easier, is that a separate changelog (one specifically for the convenience of resource pack creators) detailing changes to the textures be added.
This changelog would include, most importantly:
- Every new model added to the game in the update
- Every new texture added to the game (maybe with its place in the directory included)
- Every change to a texture's name
- Every change to models, the affected textures, and how they should change as a result (the note for the chest change in 1.15 was a great start on this!)
With this information all in one place and easily accessible I think that maintaining resource packs between updates would become a much smoother experience.
