The Nether update has added new mobs that go along with the new biomes. However, the old Nether waste biome needs some love! I propose a new mob: The imp. It is a small flying creature (about the size of the bee). It flies around and shoots flaming projectiles (it will make the nether wastes slightly more dangerous due to having both ghasts and imps shooting projectiles). They don't need their own special drops. They could use an existing drop or be like bats and have no drop.

I love it when new mobs come into the game, but it could be cool if they could spawn lava slugs (small bugs like endermite or silverfish) and just pop out and do small damage but put the player on fire and inflict burn damage. Doing this could add a bit more challenge than just hitting a projectile and hoping it hits.

I would like if they can drop blaze powder (like fish drop bonemeal) because its a pain find a Fortress just for the blaze powder (you can get the brewing stand in a village)
I like the idea, though I'd suggest taking inspiration from Thaumcraft's fire bats. Maybe a short range, just outside melee, attack. The main danger being less about the damage, and more that they're difficult to hit and can knock you into hazards if they catch you by surprise.
But then there will be ghasts blazes and imps that shoot projectiles
I sense this as good.
But DOOM did it first.what about if it was more like the vex? little floaty flying things that occasionally dive at you, have tridents, rarely throw them at you, but make it so that they are passive unless you get too close or hit them, so they feel like the big red jerk at the start of ghosts and goblins for the NES?
Maybe they could rarely drop imp wings, and two imp wings and a nether star make usable imp wings, which will allow you to "fly" (not glide but semi controlled flight) for a little bit
This could add more use for the nether star and more incentive to kill the wither
It could drop a food source but at the cost of slowness
In my opinion, the Nether should be a very dangerous place, cause right now there is only one thing I would call dangerous.. Lava..
When you have a lot of irons, or dimonds, it would be fun, if you have a greater chance to lose them while you are farming quartz or glowestone... I mean, if you are playing with friends, you usually see roles: builder, explorer, farmer, or the jerk who does nothing. Whit the scary nether, there would be a new role, the nether guy who is exploring the area of danger, risking all his Levels, and items. It would be nice if the players would scare from the Nether :) make the mobs agressive there, and make the player fear...I think that imps and blazes should drop something like fire ball or stuff that regularly we can shoot fire like flame enchanted bows but if crafted together with dragons breath it shoots the purple poison stuff that the ender dragon does.
It could drop magma or blaze rods maybe?
What would be a cóid additional feature is that if you use the right items say(10-20) gold ingots you can tame them but they will mostly stay in the nether and will die if they spend too much time in the overworld (death rates vary depending on the area e.g. Desart they can live for the longest sea and snow biomes will kill them quickly) this would add a bit of valence to them but they will be costly pets
Love the imp idea! What if they drop an emerald or nether rite?
Just like what Omega0725 said, The imps should have a rare drop of imp wings and I believe that would be a very good touch to the nether plus gameplay. I believe it would be nice to be able to fly without gliding. Using fireworks to boost your self with elytra can kill u and it would a lot more fun to use something to fly and not take damage from it.
It’s a good idea if it was a little bit bigger. Also I keep getting reminded of imps from terraria
One thing that "imps" could do, is when you kill them, they would duplicate, like slimes, but unlike slimes, they would only do that once.
I think it will need a drop because I feel like every mob needs a purpose to be killed.
I feel if we are goin to have a new nuisance to deal with there should be a good side and it shouldn't just be the same as everything else. So if it isn't going to drop anything special then it should be like pigment a passive mob until you hit them.
So it's a bat with blaze powers...
sorry, you don't have my vote
Does the nether really have a shortage of fire shooting mobs? It sounds incredibly annoying to add another one
itd be pretty cool if they had like a 1% netherite drop rate
I think they should make it so imps would drop imp hide or imp skin, and you could craft it into fire resistant armor that could be upgraded some how
Instead of firing at the player, imps should hover above the player and drop something down on them to mess with them. No mobs currently exhibit that behavior.
you should make the imp steal an item from the player and runs away or make it small as vexes and fast as baby zombies and giving small dameges to the player and make them passive if you have a gold or emerald at hand and when you give it to them they run away and drops a random item to the ground
Honestly I'm split on this. On one hand, new moons c are nice.
On the other we really don't need more projectile shooting mobs in the nether.. it's dangerous as is with ghasts and blazes. Maybe make them a melee attacker that calls others to battle, maybe even a light poison effect when struck by them? I just don't think we need more projectile shooting mobs in the nether..
Maybe they can spawn in the Soul Sand Valley, there haves more space to fly.( Sorry for my english)
Maybe they drop a new item, something like Imp wing. Use imp wing to make fire resistant armor. With the enchantment they will resist fire but when in lava doing damage to the armor. Also if it is choosing projectiles might as well be arrows. So they would drop arrows occasionally. Put armor on anvil along with imp wing to create the enchantment or something.
