By crafting a fire charge and a dye item together, a colored fire charge is created (e.g. "Red Fire Charge"). The colored fire charge, when used in the same circumstances as a normal fire charge, creates a colored flame on the ground (similar to the blue flames of soul soil). Additionally, torches and lanterns could be crafted with each, replacing the coal in the torch with a fire charge (possibly allowing normal fire charges to be used to create normal torches).
Colored fire charges give builders even more options to work with using fire, and the particles from torches can also be quite interesting when using commands.
An additional possibility: With 16 dyes, a fire could be made for every light level (with black fire producing no light).
