I had a very similar idea that I was gonna post though I gave it a couple different features as well. Here is my pitch
A flint and netherite. This creates longer lasting and stronger fire that can spread on stuff that fire normally can't like grass blocks, nether rack the nether wood should be fire resistant except to fire from a flint and nether rite. It also is purple on soul sand and soil and is a darker red normally. As well as it would take longer to naturally stop burning if you step in it.
Then in the hopefully near future when we finally get a new dimension you will have to use this flint and steel variant to activate the portal. Speaking of portals you could use this to change the links of specific nether portals. So you could have 3 portals in the over world all go to 1 portal in the nether or 3 portals in the nether go to 1 in the over world.

Not sold on a new dimension, but a normal flint and steel creating only orange/red fire, and a netherite flint and steel being able to create blue fire is an awesome idea. I was going to post this myself, but decided it would be better just to comment on this one. It would give players another reason to go to the nether and gather netherite. A cosmetic and building reason. Netherite blocks are cool, but too expensive. Blue fire being able to be put on more than just soul sand would be a great thing.
