Love this. A crimson fruit/"pod" which is an excellent food source but deals one damage on consumption would be super fun for hardcore nether survival challenges. Twisted pods could cause nausea or even poison. The roots should drop "spores" or "sprouts" instead of seeds. Netherwart also needs to be remastered to grow on soul soil.

Even better, what if bats spawned on a block in the nether and had the same use for farming in the nether as bees currently do in the overworld?

I agree with this, but not the lava part. Perhaps a better way of adding this would be to have a new liquid, or just have the crops work like nether wart.

This would make building a base in the nether a lot more useful.

Have you ever looked at a cold water bottle on a hot day… I feel cauldrons should be used as a catalyst for farming in the nether. With a cauldron allowing dirt block place immediately next to it the minimum amount of moisture to farm (4 total blocks of farm land max. The immediate blocks next to the cauldron) and no other change. (Reason: as hot gases condensate on cold surfaces suck as an iron pot with water in it)
