Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

I was going to suggest the same thing, but you suggested it better!  Charred wood, with a distinctive texture, could really make the aftermath of forest and building fires look more devastated, even as more blocks survive, and it would make abandoned villages look more ruined.  It could also be used to create future structures like ruins or burned villages.  In creative and adventure, charred wood would make a great block for dystopias and war zones.

    This is a great idea.

I wouldn't personally go with the gravity version of charred wood (maybe there could be a gravity version that is as if it was charred to powder and on the verge of being completely ash; maybe actually ash), and I would be happy if charred wood was a single product of whatever wood type was burnt, instead of a charred variant for every wood type. Charred wood is black right.

If fire burns wood on one side then it is charred. If the fire is sustained by something else or if fire has spread to more than one side, then it is burnt up.

I had this same idea on my own last night! I was thinking the same thing - that it would drop charcoal unless mined with silk touch. I would love to have charred wood available as a building block.

Still would be a cool addition, even now after 4 years!
