it could be used for farming like crops with exclusive nether farmland that allows you to plant nether crops and it evaporates in the overworld the same way normal water does in the nether

This "soul water" may be used to create obsidian from within the nether

What if soul water evaporates in the overworld like normal water in the nether

@Willem H, maybe obsidian could generate naturally along the banks of the river, alongside basalt.

Maybe instead of the water evaporating in the overworld it would freeze and turn into useless soul ice that could only be unfrozen in the nether?

Rather then being it's own biome it could be a rare addition or modification of the soulsoil valley (it could also be an explanation as to how the soul sand became soulsoil)

A soul poison potion doesn't sound right. I think no potion is needed. The soul river should drain the life (eventually decrease your health until you die) out of players or mobs when swimming in it; putting that effect in a potion makes it less unique.

I really like this concept and I think it would be something you'd find in the nether!

I think it should melt non-nether blocks, it would be pretty cool

Maybe it should be more lava-like, so you could call it Soulava
