Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Maybe this could be used to create a decorative variant of cuartz blocks making them having the same texture and variants, but opal blocks would have a light blue colour.

It should be added as an ore to exchange with villagers like emerald

I think that opals are a good idea, and here are 2 other ore, that could be awesome but not overpowered.

There should be and opal ore that is found underground most likely in the desert or the badlands that you can trade with villagers or wandering traders for a good amount of emeralds. It could motivate players to go mining and to actually not kill wandering traders as often.

There should also be a new ore called rubies that should be rarer than diamonds but not as rare as emeralds. Would have the same protection and damage as diamond but better durability and more enchantment options.

There should also be a new ore in the end known as titanium, it is quick at mining as gold, and diamond level durability. It is also the same durability and protection for armor as diamond, for swords it is the same as a diamond sword, but with a 50% chance of doing 1 more damage.

I think you should be able to use it to make a potion of luck since people in the middle ages believed that opals provided good luck and there's currently no way to make a potion of luck.
