The basic idea is that if you leave a plains lava lake unattended, it will slowly catch the surrounding grass blocks on fire (Already does this) but then turns them into blackened "Burned Grass Blocks", and lets the "Praire Fire" keep on spreading. As seen in the GIF below, flowers and tall grass could be changed in burned variants of themselves and acting as the dead bush in terms of drops. Burned grass blocks will normally drop dirt, or itself with Silk Touch just like regular grass blocks.
The danger of this fire would be that if it spreads far enough, it might encounter forests and catch them on fire.
Additionally, water lakes would act like a buffer zone, where the fire would simply stop. If the fire completely surrounds a water lake however, it would slowly lower the water level, and drain it.
Lastly, the gamerule "doFireTick" would also affect the spread of the "Praire Fire", so there's a way to quickly turn it off.
