In my opinion, Minecraft updates should focus more on gameplay mechanics than promoting a message. In that, I mean that Mojang's stance on animal abuse could be harmful to the future of the game. Sure, promoting the wellfare of animals is good, and it's a message that I agree with. However, the way it's implemented kind of poorly. I think that when Mojang implements a mob to the game, they should first consider what use the new animal has. This idea isn't that original, but why can't wolves, foxes, and ocelots be domesticated, as a lesson for children for how mankind gains the trust of animals? Creating a big area for your pigs, sheep, cows, and chicken provides no upsides, which would be a good idea in my opinion. Basically, what I am saying is that you should give the person playing a reason to interact with the animals you add, in addition to not being a cruel person.
