With the nether update just around the corner I figured I might as well get this idea I've had for a few years out for consideration.
Blistering melon seeds would be grown on soul sand. Like with its overworld counterpart, the Blistering Melon would grow from a stem, with a fully grown stem eventually generating a full Blistering Melon block. When broken, the blistering melon would drop multiple blistering melon slices.
Eating blistering melon would restore hunger, but would also set the player on fire for a few seconds, so this would be a nether food source which would need a bit of care taken when eating it, as you can't put out fires in the nether without water imported from the overworld placed in cauldrons. Another use for it would be to brew potions which set the user on fire for a longer time than when just eaten. This would have real combat implications - a splash potion version of this could be used to instantaneously set a player or seven on fire from afar, and a lingering version could be used to render certain places inaccessible for the duration of the lingering cloud.
As a final note, this potion could potentially also have something from the soulsand valley brewed into it to make the fire associated with it blue instead of the usual orange.
