Something that would be very interesting as a change for the next combat update would be different firework stars having different effects (especially out of a crossbow). The type of star you use could affect how it damages something, like how different kinds of cannon shells have different properties. I used the particle effects of each to determine how each could behave.
Small balls could work the same as usual, large ball could have a larger area of affect but less damage per entity, star shaped could be a fragmentation round of sorts like flak, I'm not sure what creeper face could be used for, and burst could be like a directional fragmentation round where there's more damage dealt in the direction of travel (like its particle effect).
The different effects could be used as well, the twinkle effect could be used for something (I'm not sure what) and the trail effect personally reminds me of white phosphorous shells, so it could inflict some sort of burn for a short time.
A few other special effects would be interesting, such as something that makes it function like a proximity fuse, exploding once in a certain range of an enemy. Another special effect could be a shaped charge (HEAT shell) that can pierce armour, or signal flares that can be seen by other players beyond render distance.
These things could really change things up and make firework crossbows a bit more viable in things, rather than an overall useless gimmick. Thank you for reading.
