Efficiency EXP punishment

I spent quite some time setting up hoppers and chests for my kelp farm and learned after collecting tons of dried kelp that automated furnaces dont give you xp. I dont think I should have lost one of my best ways of leveling up because I want to save myself time and effort. Maybe just give slightly less xp like half of a level or so for every level obtained the tedious time-consuming way
