A block that you can program. Vanilla Style.
+It would use a modified chest interface (9x9)
+Each cell would hold ONE Redstone element (repeater, comparator, wire/dust, piston, etc..) displayed as if it was placed on in-game
=modified display: instead of an item count #, repeaters would display tick delay 1,2,3,4; compairiators would show + (compair), - (subtract)
+each external side of the block would be configured where an element inside the CPU touches the bounds of the 9x9 grid IE: N,S,E,W,U,D,- (dash for not configured-default) - cycle through list when left clicking on it, right click resets to "- "(not configured)
+Right clicking an item in the grid configures it (repeater/comparator setting)
+Left clicking an item picks it up like normal
+SHIFT+LeftClick Rotates the item
(standard keys like CTRL+Q drops the item on the ground)
=behavior and textures of those items would be the same as if they were in-world (locking repeaters, piston heads/extention/etc..
-Lighting and sound blocks would not work inside this component (ie: Lamps/Noteblocks)
Note: this limits the circuit to 2 dimensions inside the block, but 3 dimensional input/output.

Example Circuit/interface: (it could get more complicated, but threw something simple together)

Block Textures example: (each side shows it's direction/letter)
