...So apparently this idea is utterly unique. I'm not surprised, but man, it's weird seeing no similar results whatsoever.
So, what's a hagfish, and why should it be in Minecraft? In plain terms, it's an eel, but that's not quite true. Hagfish are a type of jawless fish, roughly half a meter long, that live deep under the ocean, keeping close to the ocean floor. They are...I'll be honest, kinda disgusting creatures, in no small part because of a unique defense mechanism, one which is exactly why they should be in Minecraft: When threatened, hagfish release a protein which reacts with water to produce a massive amount of foul-smelling, sticky slime.
You probably see where I'm going with this, but I'll summarize the concept in two words: Slime sheep. You can harvest a supply of slime balls from a hagfish, the hagfish needs to recover, and when it's ready again, you can go back and harvest more. As hagfish are carnivorous, perhaps this might be tied to feeding the hagfish in a way not unlike breeding mechanics for land-based mobs, but as fish, perhaps they would share breeding mechanics with other fish, i.e., they don't.
And who knows, maybe the blocky Minecraft model will make hagfish look less horrifically gross than their real life counterpart.
