With the announcement of Persona Skins and their lootbox-like method of obtainment, the community was concerned about the cost of certain items as well as the lootboxes themselves. While I don't have a feasible solution for the former, I do have one that will lessen the latter's impact, inspired by Steam's Trading Cards.
So you just opened a lootbox, and you got that common peasant's cap...again. You can get rid of it by doing one of two things: You can a) Grind it down into Minecoins or b) Give it to one of your friends who is upset that she gets rare or better items with every lootbox she opens. It would be a waste to grind them into Minecoins that she'd spend on a map she's been eyeing.
So to get what the two of you want, you decide to trade: your collection of peasant's caps for that golden fiddle you've been eyeing in her collection. In the end, everyone wins: She grinds the caps she doesn't like into coins and buys a map that the two of you can enjoy, while you sport a golden fiddle that other players envy.
TL;DR: This idea is based on the premise of having multiples of a single item. You can grind down unwanted items into Minecoins that you could put toward a lootbox or player-made Marketplace content, or you can trade for persona items that you want that your friends don't. Golden fiddle is a reference to the classic country hit "The Devil went Down to Georgia" and is used as an example of a rare or better item.
