    These towns will have 25% chance of spawning in Mesa biomes. They will have rare chests with great loot

    There should be a small chance that you find people in these towns. I like ghost towns. But I think there should at least be a chance of finding people in them.

    So, let me just say right at the beginning of this post that I'm essentially just massively expanding on the initial idea from the top of the page; which is why it's going to be bigger than the first post by an order of magnitude.

    So, one of the most important things that Mojang tells us to do in these things is writing about the "how" of it being done; so here we go: any time that you are exploring a Mesa/Badlands biome or any of its various subtypes. And the train generation algorithm indicates you are due to find 4 or more separate abandoned mine shafts anywhere within 20 chunks of this chunk that is being loaded for the first time, it begins to rez-in a "mining town".

    Mining towns are just a mesa/badlands village (Distinct from the dessert type, less of an Arabic/Pueblo feeling to the buildings, more "wild west boom town" with fence gates instead of normal doors on many buildings, for example) they are made primarily out of oak and, oddly, spruce wood, and oak trap-doors in place of glass for the windows. (Just as the updated dessert villages often don't use glass at all.) They have a weighty tendency to have forges/blacksmiths and smelter buildings instead of the usual suspects in terms of jobs for the villagers, and their "garden" plots follow advanced "player technology" patterns, using a single waterlogged spruce plank at the center of a 7-by-7 square of blank ground, surrounded by an oak fence.

    There is a roughly 90% chance that such villages are zombie villages

    I actually really like this one; it would give the Mesa/Badlands more character and history, while giving those who wish to settle there a base of operations. Maybe even instead of a well, it could force a mineshaft to generate directly to under the village with a cobblestone or gravel-filled shaft leading straight into the mine.

    That’s a great idea! Saddles could spawn in loot chests along with raw gold ore. There could also be horses tied to poles via leads, to give the illusion the villagers left in a hurry not even bothering to take their horses. :)

    They should have zombie villagers, to prevent players just getting free loot and also to add a little backstory. They could also be connected to mineshafts, or smaller versions with a different design maybe
