Torches are in the game for a long time, which even feels like forever (A long time), and light system even longer.
And because worlds started with size of 256 * 256 * 64, having 16 "states" of light was appropriate. Also, back in the old days, players built a lot smaller builds. But now, when worlds are Infinite™ and builds are way bigger, there is a problem - you need a lot of light sources to prevent mob spawning and overall, to see something. And I think that we can all agree, that having a large garden full of torches / glowstone / sea pickles isn't exactly the most beautiful thing to see.
So I propose one "simple" change: double the number of light levels, and everything light level related. For example:
Highest light level now: 15 (16 - 1)
Highest light level after: 31 (32 - 1)
Torch luminance now: 14
Torch luminance after: 28
Maximum light level for hostile mobs to spawn now: 7
Maximum light level for hostile mobs to spawn after: 14
etc.
And I know, this will probably be rejected as "too difficult to implement" or "too game changing" but I have to at least try.
