Make Ender Pearl Hunts More Interesting

I've noticed that for a lot of people, one of the most tedious parts of getting to the end is getting ender pearls, so maybe something could be done to make that process more interesting? I'm not exactly sure what could happen, but I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas. Maybe a special mob could have a chance of appearing after collecting a certain amount?

    I think the key is to make it more interesting to try and find endermen. For example, what if there were little "end homes" that spawned throughout the Nether, where you could always be sure to find one or two endermen? Perhaps you could craft something from prismarine crystals that helps you locate endermen, or maybe eyes of ender could be wrapped in phantom membranes and put on a fishing rod to "fish" endermen out of soul sand.
