Sunken ships are not too rare and often give good loot with little difficulty. I’m unsure as to how much of this is by design but I feel like it’s a very easy way to jump start a game. I think it would be beneficial to add a challenge in acquiring the treasure of these lost ships. This difficulty would come in the form of a Drowned Captain, a new mini boss mob that would spawn inside of sunken ships.
These mobs would look similar to drowned though more pirate captain like, namely with a nice pirate hat. They would have a decent health pool and would have two defenses. One would be a trident they spawn with, and the other would be a bubble column they could summon on the player with their hand. I understand the idea of drowned drowning players to not be a considered one, but perhaps the opposite could be possible. The bubble column would function similar to soul sand and would propel the player up and away from their ships. These Captains would be accompanied by drowned who may swim slightly faster due to the motivation of serving their captain, making them more challenging. When killed the drowned captain could drop a trident of random durability (to create a more consistent yet challenging way of acquiring one), or the captains hat (a hat with the stats of a leather hat with a unique look, and without the ability to enchant it. Possibly with a water vision like effect).
