Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Castle Walls & Defenses (not so easily mined)

Currently way too easy to mine through castle walls or dig under them. Unless they are made with obsidian (not aesthetically pleasing), but castles weren’t made with obsidian anyway (which can be mined through with a diamond pickax too easily in almost any mode anyway). 

How about either a new play mode or a way to mark blocks as fortress blocks. Fortress blocks could be mined through but given that nobody would attack a defended fortress with pickaxes (or if they did they would certainly be wiped long before then) it would take a more reasonable amount of time (depending on the material used). Invaders would be wiped out by defenders long before they could mine their way through a stone wall.

    I like the spirit of this idea, but you still have to deal with the problem of any attacker just pillaring up the side and getting in. What if beacons could give negative status effects, such as mining fatigue, and/or "builder's fatigue" which makes it harder for players within its radius to quickly place many blocks (ladders could be an exception)? This would create lots of options on all types of servers for interesting use of fortresses.
