(See End for Summary) A great addition to Minecraft, that I think it’s deserts are in need of, is trees. Mesquite trees would be a great candidate for this due to their prevalence in U.S. and Mexican deserts such as the Sonoran and Chihuahuan deserts. Mesquite Trees drop mesquite beans that aren’t always safe to eat for humans but are eaten by rabbits such as those in Minecraft deserts. In Minecraft, this tree could have its beans harvested with similar mechanics to those of berry bushes or they could fall when harvesting wood such as apples. It’s wood would also be a good addition to Minecraft because it’s dark red, a color of wood that we don’t have yet and would make sense to add. This would also make it easier to create building materials and live in Minecraft desserts which is quite difficult at the moment. In addition to this, I think dry grass should be added to deserts which would make deserts more realistic. There could be dry tall grass variants which provide seeds to farm in the desert and in order to limit the amounts of grass they could be limited to only being found under mesquite trees.
In Summary,
Mesquite Trees
- Drop Mesquite beans, can be fed to rabbits
- Provides Red Wood, new wood
- More materials for building and crafting which you would otherwise have to get from villages or nearby forests
- Adds variety to the desert biome landscape
- Dry tall grass similar to regular tall grass, but dry (found under mesquite trees)
