I think this should be an option in settings

    Doesn’t this already happen

Yes! It was already this way, then in 1.7 they changed it and it's apparently intended... How something of this nature would be changed and why it would be closed instead of fixed when it angers people is beyond me. I have no idea why this needs to be a feature request, this is a bug and should be considered one.

Would you please add this bug report link to your post so the devs can see how the mods closed what is very clearly a BUG from being discussed or voted?

I would very much like this!
I don't want to go into the game options every time to turn off the in game music just to be able to hear the music disc clearly.
And I don't want to just permanently turn off my in game music either because I just like having it on.
Perhaps the in game music could slowly fade out instead of cutting out cold for a more chill feel when a music disc starts playing.

This especially sucks for packs like some of mine that change the ambient music to be louder songs, like I don't want to have to turn off the background music to listen to the disc it should just automatically happen

This would be great. It's annoying when I'm trying to listen to a music disc and the background music overlaps it in the background.

I've seen complaints saying "okay then what about players a hundred blocks away who can barely hear it should the sound be off for them?" and the answer is so incredibly simple, just have the amibent music fade in and out when you get closer to the jukebox and have the player who put the disc in it in the first place have their music stopped period so they can only hear the disc.
