While you're working on 1.15, I thought it would be a good time to mention my idea for an update: wings obtainable by players before the end-game elytra.
How would this work? Well, considering bats are both useless and rare, I thought tweaking them would make them more worth finding and killing. They don't have to drop XP, but they could have a very small chance (maybe 2-5%, up to 12% with looting III) to drop a broken bat wing. Players will need two broken bat wings as well as some other ingredient (maybe rabbit hide, considering it is also very underused) to craft bat wings. Bat wings will work similarly to elytra, but they cannot be propelled with rockets. They are basically just to prevent fall damage, you won't be able to "fly" with them. They can also have less durability than the elytra, say 200-250?
Why the big nerf? They are early- to mid-game items that negate fall damage when you glide with them (much like you would glide with the elytra), so for them to be as powerful as the elytra would make no sense. There still has to be some kind of need or desire to get elytra, so making bat wings far worse will power that desire.
Why bats? They are a flying mob, so for them to drop wings makes sense. They are also quite rare, so getting these wings will still be a challenge, combined with the low drop-chance.
