It would be great to have other uses for leather armor such as converting into picture frames.

I've wanted to be ale to scrap leather armour and saddles from fishing for forever

Even if we could break it down into "patches" of leather, then 9 patches make 1 leather piece similar to nuggets making ingots

    I am not a hoarder. I'm practical. =)

I hold onto older/damaged iron/gold goods. Once I have a tall stack of each, I'll smelt to recover nuggets. As neither material is affected by the Fortune enchant, every little bit helps. Though with that said keep in mind when farming cows for leather, the Looting enchant makes it easier to farm & the scrap process would only serve as a means of something to do with spare leather good

For me there is no purpose for ever keeping a saddle or leather armor (aside aesthetics.) Now if I could convert that leather into some books, then that's an incentive to cache leather goods.

I would keep small hides as is, but add leather scraps with 9 creating 1 leather. These scraps are harvested & combined at a one site. The caldron does not really make sense, the loom kind of fits, but there is always the option of a secondary supplementary profession item; a hide rack. The rack requires more work, but the loom would only need a UI adjustment. Potion making may utilize the cauldron even though it's profession is based off the brewing stand, so it's not far off to believe the loom could be used to combine leather scraps.

Literally modding in "smelt leather armor -> yield 1 rabbit hide" would provide the same functionality as all the armor types sans diamond. (Idk how I'd feel about diamond "nuggets" though.)

This would also make it easier to craft bundles -- chasing down rabbits is fun for the first couple minutes, but kind of tedious after that!

There definitely needs to be an easier way to deal with this mob drop, if it was as simple as if the item can't be smelted it doesn't fall into the top furnace slot, this would solve pretty much all the problems with leather and other sorts.

Scrap leather or event "Small Leather" would be epic for decraft broken leather gear or cut leather down for bundle recipes officially instead of datapack repicpe work around.

I even datapack to smelt the leather to charcoal just to clear inventory, which feels a bit of waste given leather is useful in Minecraft just not after its crafted.

We should be able to scrap beef leather armor or regular armor so leather can be used more instead of disposed of.

I have loads of leather that doesn't have purpose.  At least make this into something like cutting it into leather strips for brading into a rope for clinbing.

My post was about "Disassembling Leather Items" which got removed, so I'm assuming this post was why, as It is similar.

    User Story:
    As a Minecraft Player,
I want to be able to disassemble/take apart leather items,
so that I can re-use the leather scraps on something else.

    Detail:

    • Currently we can 'repair' leather and other armor, but putting 2 pieces of leather armor together.  The resultant strength/durability is a sum of the 2 pieces.
    • Currently we can smelt Gold, Iron, and Chainmail armor down into nuggets (regardless of the durability left on the item)
    • Currently we can NOT take leather armor/items apart.

This capability could be added in such a way that the player could either disassemble Leather armor/items in either a

    • crafting table, or
    • grindstone (currently used for removing enchantments)

A player disassembling a leather item (regardless of size (pants/chestplate/helmet/boots) or durability) would recieve a (1) 'leather scrap', which would roughly be equivalent to 1 rabbit hyde.

This provides some parity to the ability to reclaim resources from Gold, Iron, and Chainmail armor, in the Leather department.

I do want this! It would be nice if you're doing an island playthrough, or a challange, you could get leather from scrapping leather boots from fishing!
