Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Being able to fish up an elytra would not be fair. While it sounds cool, that would be like fishing up netherite or a shulker shell. There are certain items in Minecraft that are VERY powerful, which does make the game a lot easier. However, the issue of making the game easier is balanced out by making the game have more story. In order to obtain an elytra, you need to travel to the end, beat the ender dragon, discover the end islands, and adventure a lot to find an end city ship. This makes it so that while elytras are overpowered, they require a large amount of effort to get, and require a large amount of story progression. In fact, they are essentially the last piece of story progression, and allowing them to be fished up would simply ruin the way that game progression works, and give no incentive to find an end city ship, instead of just any end city. Also, for those who may argue that because it would be highly broken you would still want a new one from the end, you can just get mending on it and repair it. Perhaps there could be a renewable source of elytras though, but it would have to involve an end city ship.

Sorry if this seems harsh, I totally want to hear more elytra idea, its due for an update.
