Introduction: A system for armor, tool and weapon modification. Something that will spice up the incredibly small selection of base equipment Minecraft has.
Suggestion 1: Rune Sockets.
Crafted gear won't have Rune Sockets. An item may have up to 4 Rune Sockets.
Suggestion 2: Runes.
Runes would come in 3 types: Runes, Improved Runes and Enchanted Runes. An item may only have one Enchanted Rune in it at any given time. An item may not have several Runes that grant the same bonus. Socketing a Rune would cost nothing, but taking one out would cost Experience. Taking out an Enchanted Rune would destroy the item in the process.
Every mob will be immune to the effects of a random Rune/Improved Rune and the effects of any Enchanted Runes they can drop.
Examples:
Weapon Rune: 50% chance to heal for 1 hit point after a successful strike.
Improved Weapon Rune: 100% chance to reduce the hit enemy's defense points by 2 after a successful strike for 10 seconds. 50% less effectiveness and duration on secondary enemies.
Enchanted Weapon Rune: 33% reduced attack cooldown. 1% chance to drop from Baby Zombies when the player who dealt the killing blow had 10+ Experience levels.
Armor Rune: +1 defense point while in the Nether.
Improved Armor Rune: 2% chance to dodge an attack. Grants 0.5 seconds of immunity frames.
Enchanted Armor Rune: +1 damage to unarmed attacks. 0.5% chance to drop from Zombies when the player who dealt the killing blow had 20+ Experience levels.
