It would be great to be able to turn it on in server.properties.

In the mean time, there are at least two ways to turn on experimental mode (at least in 1.12.0.28 on Windows).

    1. Turn it on in Minecraft for Windows 10, export the world, and import to dedicated server.

    2. Patch the levels.dat file (make backup first).

Proceed at your own risk! The below may corrupt your world.

    First find the file

    server_folder/world/world_name/level.dat

If you use Notepad++ it will say something like

    experimentalgameplay[NUL][SOH]

[NUL] and [SOH] are each just one special control character. Copy the [SOH] character and replace the [NUL]. Make it look like

    experimentalgameplay[SOH][SOH]

This did the trick for me. Quick, easy, ugly. Patching binary code is really not a good way of developing software, but right now it seems the best way for me.

Edit: Added server version where the above patch worked.

@MochaGull957158 this does not let the mods with experimental features work.

if you export your world with the experimental features turned on it edits the level.dat file the same way you have. but this is not enough for it to work.

still looking for a way to add it through the files but still no luck.

Absolutely need, I'd love to be able to use add-on packs that add mobs on my server.

As I always say, I hope mojang reads these types of ideas to benefit realm owners. We're a smaller demographic of the player base and thus don't get as much recognition. This would be the best thing to ever happen to the Bedrock edition as a whole.

I really want it to, right now i make a world on pe and put it in the server and it works.
Windows keeps every file hidden and i dont like it. My phone is rooted so i can easily access my world on phone.

Ok so scripts came out last year. So I am hoping that it has been enough time for them to add the very obvious next step which is to take the experimental thing off, or simply let realms and servers also enable experimental gameplay. If not i am going to suspect that they are just afraid of empowering their users to compete with their own business model. Forcing people to play on a few rather limited 'trusted' servers is not my idea of a good business model, so i hope that isn't what they are aiming at. The good business model is the Roblox model, and the Java Edition model. Let people create what the want and share it with their friends. If you can do that again across multiple platforms now that they did such an awesome job with Bedrock edition, then they will double their billion dollars that was spent on this game. Don't try to lock people into your business model. Just skim off the top of people doing what they want to do with a perfect game for creativity.

Man if this thing doesn't come at the next Minecon i I'm going to be very disappointed in the direction of this game.

Add the ability to enable experimental gameplay on the realms server. I'll be just unrealistic cool and fun. You are limiting us, and that's literally. Listen to us, Mojang, please.

My children are very into Minecraft and they see all the addons that can be applied.

I have a dedicated server for them running on my home LAN, but I cannot add some of the addons they want because I cannot enable Experimental Gameplay. Why is there even a question as to why this could not be enabled?

The settings are already applied to worlds created on clients, this should just be a set of creation-time properties like the seed property for use during world creation.

I found an easier way to enable experiments that worked for me. I just zipped the world file from the sever into a .mcworld file and then imported it into minecraft. Then i went into settings of the world and changed experiments to on. Then I exported the world and unzipped it into my dedicated server.

I see developers again ignoring this. What a shame.
