I believe that pumpkins should drop readily edible slices, just like melons.
I am currently playing a survival buffet badlands world, and the only food you can get in the beggining (after you plant them) are beetroot, melon and pumpkin seeds (from mineshaft carts). You can't really get milk in this world or biome, therefore, you can't craft pumpkin pies.
Making pumpkins edible would allow the badlands and other biomes to be more "livable" and desirable. Also, it would only make sense.I remember that sheep weren't a source of food before, and it didn't make any sense. They are now, so, why not pumpkins too?
