Please add the Minecraft Launcher to the Snap Store. It is a universal app store for Linux. Applications in this app store can be installed on many different Linux distributions and applications are sandboxed so you don't get compatibility issues. You create the snap package once and you can install and run it on all supported distributions.
As a user, I really like the Snap Store because of the following
- Enabled by default in Ubuntu. On a default Ubuntu installation, when you open the "Ubuntu Software" store, all snaps are available and ready to install. This store is the first place I go look when I want to install an application.
- Sandboxed. None of the dependencies of the Minecraft snap are installed on my system; they are only available to Minecraft itself. The snap also has limited access to my host system, this improves the stability and security of my computer and of the application.
- Easy to install. You just click "install" in Ubuntu Software or you type `snap install <name>`.
- Automatic updates. Snaps automatically update themselves in the background. I don't have to worry about old versions or manually update applications.
The Snap store also has many advantages for publishers. Some of these are explained here: https://docs.snapcraft.io/java-applications
