My main issue with this idea is that it is ultimately biased. I realize you tried to make it as fair as possible from your point of view, but it ultimately still favors one side over the other. In the end, you are still being punished for not eating a diverse diet. A better compromise would be something that rewards players who have diverse diets with new advantages not currently in the game. Otherwise, you're essentially just forcing players to eat well if they want to sprint or regenerate health, things that were already possible before, without needing a good diet. I will say, however, that this was a very well organized suggestion that you clearly put some extra effort into, which I can certainly appreciate. I just ultimately disagree.

You've almost understood my idea. Diet would not have an effect on your ability to sprint or regenerate health under my proposal.

Instead, my proposal makes it to where if you eat a poor (not diverse) diet, performing actions such as sprinting and regenerating health would deplete saturation faster than if you ate a healthy (diverse) diet. That's it.

And even then, if your saturation depletes faster than usual, how would you respond? By simply eating more of whatever food you have stacks upon stacks of. So it's not nearly as much of a "punishment" as you might think, and it's specifically designed to avoid forcing players to eat a diverse diet if they don't want to.

It's hard to accept your statement that I'm biased. I'm only biased against the way the game is right now because I think the ability to survive on nothing but thousands and thousands of a single food is boring, shallow game design. After all, if I weren't "biased" in this way, this wouldn't be much of a suggestion, right?

Thank you for being kind even when you disagree with me, though. Props to you for being a fair commenter.

Maybe I didn't realize you did say this, but maybe it's something you can toggle, so if you want to use this and have this challenge, then it's something you can have. OR if you really really don't want it, go back to the old play style of minecraft. This is kind of like turning off and on weather, changing the difficulty and other things.

I would like to see something implemented to get players to eat more foods, but I agree more with Gabriel Irvin's idea of a system that rewards players that eat diverse foods. I think that different food types should give players small benefits, and eating a healthy range of foods should add an additional benefit. I do like your tastiness gauge idea, though. I think it is a great way to show players how healthy they are.

This could go two ways if added. It could make lots of food items ignored for restoring a lot of nourishment, or this could not effect the game at all, making it useless to add. I like the thought and effort put into these posts, but I think that the hunger bar is enough.

I like your idea, and I wanted to comment on the adjustments I'd make to your system.

First, I think the nourishment level should start at 1 and go up to 3.  Level "1" would cause hunger to increase at the exact same rate it does today.  Whenever you respawn, the nourishment level goes back to 1.  This is so that players like me don't get a reward from killing themselves whenever they're hungry.  The nourishment level shouldn't go below 1, so that people who only eat one food don't find it easier than it usually is.

Second, I think there should be a fourth "taste tier," a blue dot, which represents absolutely delicious.  Every time you respawn, a set of random foods would be chosen that you absolutely crave.  These would start out blue and never get any less tasty than green.  If you eat enough blue foods, you can even boost your nourishment above 3, maybe to 3.5 or 4.  Also, enchanted golden apples would always be blue, and rotten flesh, pufferfish, etc. would always be red.

I hope you like my thoughts on your idea, and I wish that this post would get more attention.
