The 1.13 Update Aquatic added many new features and structures, one of them being magma-filled ocean ravines. There hasn’t really been a reason to venture down to these ravines, sure you can see them from the surface of the water but there are much more practical measures of finding ores than diving into the water-filled chasms. One way to bring people into these ravines, however, would be adding an incentive to actually dive down there. One creature fit for the job sticks out in particular, the Giant Isopod. Most likely just being called “Isopod” in game, these creatures in the wild live near geothermal vents in deep ocean chasms, hence the magma block filled ravines being a perfect habitat. The isopod would swim towards the player much like the fish we currently have and also could ignore the gravitation effect of bubble columns. A unique threat these little guys could pose would be draining a small amount of oxygen each hit, the player would have to stand in a bubble column or go up for air if they’re attacked for too long, and water breathing could potentially not be infinite. Besides just making the deep ocean depths more lively, isopods could also drop a unique item, a carapace or something, which maybe could be used in crafting a reinforced shulker box or repairing turtle shells in an anvil.
