I came to make similar feedback. My first contribution to this website in fact!

I have turned the weather sounds down to nearly 0 (It is currently at 3) and cannot hear the rain anymore, but lightning still makes me jump and my ears hurt from the drastic sound. I enjoy the rain sounds but with lightning so loud and explosive I have unfortunately disabled weather audio until this is fixed, effectively ruining the aesthetic and entire point of storms.

The lightning is absolutely, shockingly loud. I'm enjoying a quiet snowfall in the mountains and suddenly the lightning is making me fall out of my chair.

6 years and the Google search results are identical. Please let's get some movement on this! I need it to get muffled when indoors/near the opening of a cage, significantly fewer lightning strikes, even rarer close ones, and audio that matches the distance and sounds less like TNT. Please at least just lay the ground work and let players build the resource packs to make it happen.
