Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Permafrost

Permafrost is a block that resembles dirt but is cold and can damage the player if they stand on it for more than ten seconds. After this time limit, the player will be damaged like standing on a Magma Block.

Permafrost resembles a dirt block but is interwoven with ice and snow. It does not melt when placed in a warm biome. Permafrost generates in clumps below Snowy Plains/Tundra biomes as well as below the Ice Spikes biome. This block is uncommon.

When the player stands on permafrost a “tsssss...” sound plays that lasts for ten seconds and gradually gets quieter. When the sound ends, the player gets damaged.

In real life Permafrost is ice and dirt that has been frozen for tens of thousands to millions of years without melting. It is found in Siberia below the tundra where frozen mummified mammoths and wooly rhinos have been found. Because of this Permafrost has a rare chance of dropping a Bone or Leather.

    I really like this idea! I was going to suggest they put packed ice under the topsoil in a tundra biome, but I like your idea of a permafrost block much more :)

    And perhaps saplings cannot grow if there is permafrost within (x) metres of the surface

    I really like the idea of a permafrost too, however as we have powder snow now, we already have a cold block causing damage. Therefore I would suggest simply creating it as a own block with unique features (the permafrost dirt) or even as block state which could be "permafrost: true/false". All in all it should be a kind of dirt which is hard like stone (hardness of 1.5) and is being generated in snowy and mountain biomes instead of normal dirt.
