Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Handheld Banners

I believe that it should be possible in Minecraft to place a banner on your head, back, and/or display while holding. I’m aware that head-worn banners already exist in Java with commands, but I think that it should be possible to place them in the head or chest slot by hand to create capes and head-worn banners. Additionally, when a player is holding a banner in one of their hands, it should be held up high and displayed. This feature would exist for both hands. Please consider adding this in, it would greatly benefit Survival servers and just add another element of awesomeness. Thank you.

    Yeah, I was going to post exactly this; glad I searched first. On my friend's realm, I'm building a pvp colosseum, and it would be much easier to tell teams apart if they could wear banners.

    It can be used to make the roll of a doctor carrying a banner with a red cross in the hand or head.

    You can do that with /replaceitem, but your idea would be a better system, and also it would be good on multiplayer.

    What if you could wear an ominous banner on your head to trick pillagers? They would still attack you if you start a fight, similar to piglins and gold armour. Might make raids too easy though...

    I especially agree with the handheld banners. It should appear as it does in the first person camera.

    I like the idea of banners on the head (plus this still needs to be added for bedrock even with commands) but banners in the chest slot for capes sounds off. Capes should be a novelty for more experienced players that took the time to get them. Next thing you know you won’t know a real cape from a fake one.

    I had the same idea, a banner should be able to wear it in the chest or shield / elytra slot like a platoon commander, for custom gameplays in servers

    Yes, a large banner in hand is a convenient opportunity to show the "white flag" or count out "Ready, aim, fire!" without using chat.
