About the Crystals
The Nether Crystals spawn atop rare, thin spires of Nether brick, looking out towards the lava oceans on the edges of land. They are bright orange with glowing yellow symbols, and pieces of gold float around them.
Like the End crystals, they explode when damaged, so protect them from the various Nether mobs that will actively seek to kill them. Unlike the End crystals, they do not heal or respawn the Ender Dragon, but they have a similar use for you...
Linking
The main use of these crystals is to be linked to. When you die in the Nether, you have the option to respawn at the linked crystal, or to respawn in your bed in the Overworld.
The Nether crystal will usually try to spawn you on the lowest possible land, and when you do respawn, you will be given Fire Resistance for 5 seconds, just to get you out of any nasty trouble.
For multiplayer, these crystals can link to multiple players at a time.
Downsides
When you've decided to respawn at the crystal, you become unlinked, and cannot link to any crystal for the next 5 minutes. Also, these crystals become utterly useless in Hardcore mode.
If in a different dimension, you cannot choose to respawn at a linked crystal, but returning to the Nether will keep you linked.
As mentioned earlier, Nether mobs will try to destroy these crystals. Since they are not renewable, it's recommended you guard any that you find.
Conclusion
A quick waypoint-styled addition to the game that allows you to quickly jump back in to gather the items you lost in the Nether.
