I feel that some items in Minecraft are useless. Not because you can't do anything with them, but because they are so rare that you won't WANT to do anything with them. The 2 items in questions are the Totem of Undying, and the Enchanted Apple. These items are great fun, but due to their extreme rarity in vanilla survival, and their one-time use, they are almost never used. Instead, they are usually put inside an item frame or a chest, as an exhibit. Of course, it is important that these items remain rare. This is what gives value to them, and on servers where the use of duplication glitches is rampant (see 2b2t.org), anyone who doesn't have access to large amounts of these items will always be destroyed by someone who does. I think that these items should be just as rare as they are now, but reusable. These items should be given a durability bar. When they are used, they will instantly lose all of their durability. Similar to elytra, when this happens, they won't disappear. Instead, they will just shatter. They can only be used again once they are fully repaired. They can be repaired at an anvil (totems are repaired with emeralds, and enchanted apples are repaired with gold), or with mending. This would be a great addition to the game, because players can now actually use these items without feeling instant regret. However, they would still need to repair them using resources, meaning that the player can't just spam them and become extremely powerful. In other words, you would need to think twice before using them, but not thrice. Using them would instead be fun, and not painful. You will be like "oh yea apple time", rather then feeling like "oh god it took me 5 hours to find that and I wasted it".
