I haven’t seen something like this proposed yet. I know it sounds similar to some other ideas, but it’s fundamentally different.
WHAT I WANT DONE:
A combat system that allows for more strategies ( aka creativity)
HOW I WANT IT DONE:
The weapon cool down for swords is for the sweeping edge, not base damage.
For the trident, the cool down is for the range, not base damage.
The axe would require a cool down to be swung.
Lighter material axes and swords have smaller cooldowns. They still do less damage.
Critical hits are based off player speed instead of whether they are falling.
Shields can stun melee attackers, and not take durability, if lowered right as a hit is taken.
Bows remain unchanged.
Firework Rockets shot out of a piercing crossbow should drag any mob hit by it along until it explodes.
WHY I WANT IT DONE:
This allows for multiple play styles and thoughtful strategies. One-shot foes with the slow but strong axe? Fly quickly with elytra to score massive damage? Spam? or wait for sweeping edge? Use piercing? or multishot?
Questions like these allow for creative solutions in a game all about creativity. I want this system, as it would likely satisfy those demanding the spam to return, while still giving benefits to those who wait for the cool down. No need for game rules or similar.
