Ability to Disable double tap to sprint

Now that there is a dedicated button for sprint it gets really annoying that you cannot toggle off double tapping W or rapidly moving left stick twice to sprint. Just adding the option to turn this feature off would really help.

    this already exists on all non-PC versions so it doesn't make since why it's not on PC as well. hopefully just an oversight. it's off-putting going into a sprint when i was trying to inch forward slightly and it makes playing the game irritating when switching from a game that has it disabled, which is about 90% of the games on the market nowadays

    I agree, caving is really annoying with double tap to swim (because sprint = swim in water) please add this soon :(

    We need this on java edition, double tap w makes it really hard to make precise movements.

    The keyboard and mouse experience is near unplayable on Bedrock Edition. I'd like to make the switch over from Java to Bedrock, because it looks arguably better, has controller support if you want it, and performs enormously better than Java edition. But the double-tap to sprint feature will go off on its own, without even lifting my finger off of the W key. It happens mostly when I strafe left and right a lot, which I have to do, a lot. For people who use it, fantastic. More power to you. But I want the option to disable the feature. Control to sprint is (no pun intended) actually controllable. Double-tap to sprint is broken and unstable, and players need the option to disable it on PC.

    Edit: It turns out that double-tapping any direction on WASD while moving forward will make you sprint. Feathering the strafe keys or backpedalling should never make you sprint. This is what made it appear as if it was sprinting on its own. Try it for yourself. Hold W and double-tap A or S or D and you will start sprinting. Does that make any sense? Give us the option already.

    I agree. It gets really frustrating when you are swimming, or even crossing a small river.

    The ability to disable this in the settings would be remarkably useful.

    God yes, the double tap sprint/'fast swim' annoys me to no end. It's the one thing that bothers me most about the game, and is frankly the sole reason I don't play as often as I otherwise would. It's a minor grievance but it bothers me more and more every time I play the game and it comes up.

    It's just far too easy to sprint by accident and my immersion is broken whenever it happens. All I want is a simple toggle in the options!

    It would be especially useful to controller players (who can simply press in the thumbstick to sprint as in other games) and in situations where you need to move with precision (towards the edge of a sheer drop etc) and don't want to have to move far slower than necessary to avoid hitting W twice a bit too quickly and shooting off the edge. Also in situations where you want to move slowly at the surface of water and you would otherwise accidentally dive under the surface and shoot ahead.

    It'd be wonderful if we could get an official response about this!!!

    100% agree, this needs to be implemented! Especially since double-tapping any movement direction (while forward is held) can cause sprinting, I find I'm randomly sprinting even when not hitting the sprint key or double-tapping forward.

    I went to Google for this exact issue, and found this thread. I agree 100% that this NEEDS to be an option in Java. I was dismayed to realize that this is already an option on consoles, but somehow isn't an option on Java?!?

    I'm trying to build underwater, and making a lot of fine movements as I attempt to place blocks. This means coming close to double tapping my direction keys, and when this happens with the W key, I am suddenly shifted into the sprint/swim animation. It is INCREDIBLY annoying!!!

    Please, please, please, Mojang, please give us this option!! Especially with all the beautiful features you added in 4.13, for building underwater, this has become a much needed option!!

    Yes please! This is terrible on Bedrock/PE on Windows 10 when playing with keyboard+mouse, and there's no use for it since you can just hold Shift to sprint.

    I need this option. No other PC game works like this, where double tapping your forward key makes you sprint. Instead of being able to move slowly forward by quickly tapping forward, you start running full speed ahead. I just fell to my death in a ravine because of it. Quickly tapping forward is a common action for some people who do a lot of PC gaming, and the double tap causes all sorts of unintended side effects.

    This is a great idea. Many Chinese players quitted and turned to MCPE China edition because the China edition has this one tap sprint feature. I have been expecting this feature to be added for a long long long time, hopefully it will become a reality soon.

    This is even more infuriating when youre playing cake wars on bedrock edition and you try to pillar across to somewhere as fast as you can but you end up sprinting right off the edge. I prefer playing cake wars on bedrock but i really prefer using mouse and keyboard so i have to be careful not to double tap W too fast near the edge :/

    Yes indeed. It especially makes it difficult to perform precise movements underwater (ie when building or mining), as if you tap W one too many times too quickly, your body gets thrown from vertical to prone position (the swimming position). This has made my survival underwater build attempts excessively arduous, and considering how relatively easy it should be to code in, would be a great thing to include in the next update.

    Playstation 4 user here. I play with mouse and keyboard because it feels a lot better. But the thing that really bothers me is that can't turn off the double tap sprint ability. I could just be walking and suddenly my character is sprinting. I'd appreciate if there was a way to disable it. I can't find anything on the web to help so I hope this comment is seen.     This would be awesome to toggle. Even if I hold "W" down, if i press another button like "A" or "D" it causes me to sprint. This is super frustrating, especially when I'm trying to farm or just to walk around.

    It's so disheartening when you buy a game that has been out forever, have something like this negatively affect your experience, go online to see if there's a fix coming and it turns out that people were asking for it over a year ago already. Why in the world does double tapping *to the side* even count towards sprinting in the first place?

    I whole-heartedly agree with this suggestion. Ever since the dedicated sprint key was added, I've used that exclusively. Not being able to disable double-tapping forward has led to some situations where I'm trying to position myself carefully (for example, in PvE combat) but gone flying forward and straight into the mobs I'm trying to attack.

    I agree, it should be an option. I use ctrl to sprint 100% of the time so the only time I double tap is when it's on accident. If I'm building and I'm moving and stopping quickly sometimes sprint will engage and it's quite annoying.

    Agree, movement is kinda awful with this on. It's great as an accessibility feature but not as a default setting.

    Double tap sprint becomes most annoying when doing any sort of mining underwater.  Just tapping forward twice will make you go into swim mode, slowing down your mining.  I never use double tap to sprint, so it is more of an annoyance than a feature.  The ability to disable it would be great for the people that don't want it.

    I'm trying to make a minecraft adventure map and I'm asking the player to turn off sprint, except your not able to do that, this would really help thank you

    I play on XB1 and this infuriating function has thrown me off the end of my bridge many times, it's also nauseating for the FOV change that keeps snapping on and off from accidental sprint engagement.

    Make it simply and OPTION to disable this PLEASE

    I've been putting off playing Windows 10 edition because of this oversight, which sucks because I really like the performance boost W10 version gives me over Java. It's been years now, and countless people requesting the feature. Can we PLEASE make it official?
