Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

You shouldn't be able to plant crops down on Dirt Slabs because the roots won't be in the soil.

Why would you copy this when it already exists?

Please don't copy other peoples posts. Doing so will get your post deleted and it won't make you a better person. What I'm trying to say is that this is gonna get deleted because Dirt Slabs already exist in the Feedback website.

Mojang won't add it because they would be too "noobish"

Being able to plant on the half slab would be amazing less wasted Farm space. Enabling it to be like Hydroponics

I was just thinking this myself!! I personally think it’s a great idea.

I deeply agree with this idea especially because I am making a coarse dirt path on my Minecraft world but it doesn’t flow well together. I’d love to see dirt slabs in Minecraft.

Minecraft NEEDS dirt, coarse dirt and grass slabs. And stairs as well. And maybe even walls. (Plus, pls add vertical slabs and stairs. I don't know why thay would "inhibit natural creativity". And you cant do them in other ways than mods.)

Good Idea. I can see how this will help builders in so many ways. However, all 39 slabs in Minecraft are made of a "Hard Material', which is Wood, Stone, Bricks, Quartz, Purpur, and Prismarine. The "hardness" of these blocks is what enables them to be actually cut, because in theory if you tried to cut dirt it would just fall apart. There is no actual mechanic that tells us what blocks are fit to be cut, so this could easily be added. I just don't think it will unless it is a creative mode feature only.

Dirt, Coarse Dirt, and all other "natural/soft" materials are more likely to become layers like snow instead of slabs.

you could have topsoil (dirt slabs) and turf (grass slab). i dont think they should be generated, but crafted so the player can change the environment themselves

It seems there is no reason for not making dirt slabs except that they are hard at work on Minecraft 2.0 and they don't want to water down those new features. Dirt slabs are something universally wanted and would make so many builds look better. There are no "Minecraft logic" reasons that there are stone slabs but not dirt slabs. Economics is the only reason for withholding this functionality.

Dirt slabs were added in beta version but was later removed. How long have you been playing Minecraft?

Dirt slabs, stairs, walls, and doors would be an absolute godsend. That way people could build dirt houses easier, especially if it's their first day in the world and they want a quick place for the night.

Why I would like to see grass slabs, dirt slabs etc.: because it would allow the player to walk around without constantly having to jump whenever the surface is not completely flat. This would be nice when building a house below an artificial hill, but I guess having slabs used by the natural world generation would also be a nice improvement.

For grass slabs it would look nice if the sides are completely green, unlike the current grass block. A dirt slab that is placed could turn into grass in stages, first only the top and then the top and the sides.

I understand why Mojang seems reluctant to add dirt slabs and grass slabs. It would make things complicated if you also want to have plants grow on them. A flower growing on top of a grass slab would start and end in the middle of a block. The same thing would happen with trees. Although you could "cheat" with a tree by having it growing half a block lower so it could still have its base at a whole block.
