The scaffolding block was an amazing addition to the game. I think the game could really use more survival-oriented updates like that, rather than just more colorful things to look at like usual. I'll post other similar ideas so be sure to check those out if you agree and want to see the game keep going in that direction.
One annoying thing about building (especially in survival) is having to break down half of what you built because one little thing didn't line up properly. It'd be great if you had some sort of placeholder you could use beforehand to mark everything out and make sure your design works just how you want it to. Similarly to the scaffolding block, this job used to filled primarily by dirt blocks as that was the closest we could get.
The frame block would be crafted using sticks, making it extremely cost effective and it could easily and quickly be broken down by hand. When placing any block other than another frame block on it, the frame block pops off into item form and the block you put down takes it's place.
The frame block will likely be used decoratively as well, so it would make sense to add a metal version that could be used in modern builds. I don't see how there could be anything but an aesthetic difference between the two though.
