When horses jump while running in real life, they tuck their front legs in and push with their back legs so that they launch into the air, they then reach their front legs out once they are clear of any obstacle and tuck their back legs in ready to push off and continue its gallop. While a minecraft horses legs lack the joints to mimic a horses jump with accuracy, I feel that their jumping animation can still be improved upon. Here’s how I’d do it:
1: Let’s pretend the horse is going to jump over a fence, The horse has a bit of a run up.
2: You click the jump button, It’s front legs angle back towards its stomach and it’s back legs push against the ground as the horse makes the leap, it’s back sloping towards the ground.
3: It is midair over the fence block, it’s front legs angled forward and it’s back legs angled backwards.
4: Its front legs touch the ground, it’s “hind quarters” sloped upwards and its back legs moving forward, ready for impact.
5: Finally all four of the horses legs touch the ground. It’s hind legs have angled backwards and it’s back has now leveled, the horse can continue galloping.
I’m no horse expert but I hope that the horses jumping sounded right.
