Redstone Rod - For Unsupported Waterproof Transmission

Redstone rod looks very much like an end rod. While end rods have a purple base on one end, redstone rods have a gold base on both ends. They can only input and output a redstone signal to blocks that its golden ends are actually touching.

To transmit between rods both must have their golden ends touching. As a result a line of redstone rod can only travel in one direction, is insulated from adjacent lines, and it can travel in any direction unsupported. It should have a 1 redstone tick delay before propogating to the next rod so you can make pretty light shows (presumably the gold substrate is putting resistance on the signal).

Redstone rod will appear a dark red when unpowered, and will have a brightness equivalent to the signal strength when powered. If possible it would be nice for it to output a light level equal to redstone torches.

Redstone cannot be placed underwater; This can. This block should be able to become waterlogged. It should have some amount of hardness and blast resistance as well.

The crafting recipe is a gold ingot with redstone dust on each end to make 1.

Justification

  • Transmitting redstone through water.
  • Transmitting vertically and horizontally.
  • Insulated and unsupported so it uses far less space.
  • Pretty to look at, offering improvements on aesthetics like emergency lighting, disco light shows, laboratories and lasers.
  • Another resource sink for gold! 
  • Does not invalidate other redstone techniques as a normal redstone dust line is faster, a torch ladder is cheaper, repeats and inverts.

    u/McModknower from Reddit suggests making the crafting recipe redstone dust with a gold nugget on either end. Let us know if you agree.

    Maybe if you use iron it could form a solid line without the tips

    Gold was used because it is highly conductive and inert; It doesn't go rusty in water like iron.

    The gold tips could definitely be removed when they are joined if you like that better.

    Maybe instead of having delay, it reduces signal strength by 1 per rod passing through. (You can still have it travel slower per game tick in rod instead of traveling on dust.)

     

    I'd also like to suggest a "conduit." Allowing for power to be enter and exit rod, and serving as a 90 degree turn. A piece of quartz in the middle, with redstone dust in north south east and west positions.

    You can also have a booster block, to boost and reset the signal strength. (At the cost of being slightly slower) I'm thinking Redstone block in the middle, with gold bars in the north and south.

    And perhaps an inverter rod to do circuitry using rods. Same as redstone rod, but use blaze rod instead of gold.

     

    This would be a nice alternative for people that don't like learning a lot of redstone. (Especially observers, slime blocks and piston circuits.)

    The redstone rod could be crafted with a copper ingot instead of a gold ingot.
