Remember that snapshot, 14w11a, where minecarts were made faster and they would fly off the tracks if they hit a corner too fast? I think that this feature should be re-implemented, but in the form of a new item; golden minecarts.
This would incentivise players to have fun building rail infrastructure. I think this is great because, despite the fact how fun it is to make a railroad network, current day Minecraft makes it just not worth the effort, due to the amount of effort it requires combined with the slow speeds of iron minecarts compared to horses and firework-elytra travel.
Golden minecarts can go much faster and farther than iron minecarts, but will derail at corners if going too fast and can't go uphill if they are moving too slowly.
My logic behind this is that gold is a heavier material, and therefore would acquire more momentum or something. Plus it is a rarer material, making it more late-game.
Crafted with 5 gold blocks, and with the challenge of needing well-made railroads to be built, these could be the perfect solution for late-game travel between permanent bases, as well as a lot of fun to play with.
