"Wainscoting" is the term for thin panels of wood that are attached to interior walls in homes to give a different style than simple paint would. They can be ornate and decorative irl, but for Minecraft I'm just suggesting plain panels that are one pixel thick and come in the standard Minecraft 16-color palette.
This would enable enhanced decorative options for the interiors of builds, without having to make the walls two blocks thick.
They should be blocks, not entities. To prevent lag (like paintings and item frames do).
They would measure 16 x 16 x 1 pixels. Unless they have a slightly thicker border.
They should be able to be placed against any full-block surface, such as walls, floors and ceilings.
They would be similar to carpet, but with a smooth texture.
Plenty of image examples via Google.
