Membranes are thin pieces of body tissue from the mob and I don't think that it would support a player weight. The Phantom Membrane only acts with Elytra as a sewing item not an item that can be in a recipe to craft wings.

The only reason we can't craft them is because they're too op mainly for flight. That's why we have End Cities. If it was to have a crafting recipe, it would need something else such as Leather instead.

If you put more information about how to make them and how expensive it would be, you would probably get more votes.

I feel this would be too easy. Elytras are meant to be scarce that only a true player should be able to get in survival.

I like how you thought of a way to earn the materials to make it

I think they would be crafted by using leather, two string, and four phantom membranes, all in the shape of a upside down U.

If elytras can get crafted and glue gets added then glue should be in the crafting recapie

I think currently Elytras are rightly really hard to obtain and is an endgame item. Most people only get them after defeating the Ender Dragon which arguablay is the end of the games progression. and these then allow you to explore faster the wide and spacious worlds in minecraft. I think it is good to achieve the end part of the game before obtaining it. But if you play with multiple people on realms or servers it becomes ridiculously hard and time consuming to find ever new cities. any small mishap like falling into lava (that is a weird thing to say in the real world...) would then require an unreasonable amount of time to recover an in practice finite amount of elytras. that are reasonably reachable in the end. If you add the option to make it craftable ( Or having it as a master level Trade Item from the leather worker) would therefore be a great addition. But it needs to be hard enough so you can't produce without reaching the end first: so why not include a material that can be only optained from drops of respawning End-Mobs or something that can be replenished only in the End and then taken back to craft and or trade expensively ( talking something like 64 emeralds + multiple said end objects)

An elytra recipe should be unlocked for a player when they retrieve their 1st elytra from an end city.

I think the multiplayer server problem is important. Wherein, the first player to obain an elytra can easily obtain more, and is incentivized to horde a few as insurance against losing flight capability, and occasionally grabs more as they lose them. It becomes increasingly difficult for anyone else to obtain their own, especially for players who don't yet have one. Players with elytra can hand them out, but that would seem to deprive others of the same quest the first player got to experience.

If a player can craft elytras once they've obtained one from an end city, there's no longer an incentive to fly around the end dimension grabbing them up. If people just want to receive one from another player, that still works. If they want to quest for their own and obtain the recipe, that's hopefully a better experience now!
