Similar to how the Guardians spawn in Ocean Monuments and have three Elder Guardian mini bosses. I think the Nether Fortresses should have three mini bosses of their own. I think a mini boss version of the Blaze would work just perfectly!

Each time the structure spawn, it should look different everything time you found one.

They must not stay the same.

They must look like a actual fortress then Walls in the nether.

The  loot should be more  randomized like sometimes you can netherite in the chest.

Now that new nether brick variants have been added, this idea actually seems possible now! We just all have to hope and pray that Mojang listens to our screams and revamps these outdated structures.

    • A thought I've had for a while is to make the fortress more stronghold-esque, in the sense that it provides more endgame than just the wither. Perhaps incorporate something with the dragon egg so it provides a lengthier journey, whereas the current version can become bland to the average player following the defeat of the dragon and wither. As of now we have the 2 main bosses in the game being the Wither which is primarily fought in the overworld and the dragon which is the current endgame boss. But why stop there, why not have some sort of shrine in the fortress that you have to progress to after defeating the dragon and claiming the egg as your own? Perhaps even the long awaited addition of a baby dragon, and even the addition of a gauntlet to fight through, almost like the raid. but in a Colosseum, having the player fend off waves of nether enemies to protect the egg while it hatches. If you fail and the mobs destroy the egg, you lose the egg and have to go fight the dragon again to get a new one, if you complete it, a baby dragon as a pet.

I've made rough designs for a Colosseum style to match with MinesCrafter02's design (size and color subject to change)

Next to the new Nether Bastion structures added in 20w16a, the original nether fortresses are starting to look very dated. I think at least some sort of an overhaul is in order, perhaps making use of the new nether brick variants also being added in the nether update.

The Piglin Bastians basically are black Nether fortresses, but for Piglins.

    Everybody

Bastians are for Piglins, but Nether Fortresses are for Wither Skeltons. Maybe we should rename the Nether Fortress.

Let's discuss what rooms should be added as well. I think it would be ok to have new room ideas as a separate post (since rooms are structures, that put together makes this larger structure).

    What I want:

1st of all, let's get some new blocks

2nd of all, let's get some new fortress variants.

3rd of all, new rooms in the fortresses.

With the addition of chisleled and cracked nether bricks, I can almost 100% say that they will be reworking nether fortresses. It will probably come out in the snapshot this week or next week. My reasoning is that they wouldn't just add these block for decorations and they're definitely going to be part of the new build. Look at the Blackstone blocks and bricks, we received them a week before but judging off the snout on one of the blocks we could tell it made up Piglin Bastions. This was the same week they added the new nether bricks. Also, I checked the blocks out on the bedrock beta and the new blocks aren't at all the same color as the older nether brick. The new blocks are more darker and vibrant, and don't match the old blocks as well. I also am hoping for a rarer red nether brick fortress variant to make things more interesting.

I totally agree with this idea but I noticed from the comments that people are getting too eager about the castle idea. Remember, the fortress is there for one reason. The blaze spawners. That is because they are required to beat the game. That's it. That why they are here. But they need an update I agree.

Technically the fortress contains two things, blaze rods and crimson wart. The fortress needs some more mobs like phantoms. Fortress technically had thicker walls and smaller towers compared to castles. Destroyable floors would be a nice way to make the fortress more challenging.

Lady Agnes and Cory said that they may redo Nether Fortress after 1.16 and now with all the requests for it, it is very possible that it will be updated. I would personally make it less blocky with lower foundations being more cracked and detailed, would like if corridors and bridges in the Fortress were decorated and would come in different shapes, like one could be higher and another one lower. Crossings may be bigger in appearance and blaze spawner platforms could be more challenging and have a dungeon-ish look. The generation of the Fortress is also a problem as it most of the time is in weird location which makes it go through the area creating unaesthetic feel and bland look. It may also have vegetation growing on it as well as Crimson* or (Warped (if ever added)) bricks that could add more similarities to the environment that it is generated in. More loot and challenging areas with maybe some kind of lava or fire traps and holes in the bridges would make the Fortress so much more better visually with it's own mood and feel, also more dangerous and exciting to explore. This structure deserves justice.

Here is the new bridge with multiple colors while trying to maintain the original nether bridge style.

Here is a new stylized treasure room using a purple background to distinguish itself from other nether hallways. Its a bit of wip.

And finally here a look back at the completed bridge.

Just a few ideas to get things started. I think they might work on it in this iteration but its possible they may not. I am still working out colors. Purples, greens, whites, oranges, reds, and cyans contrast brown nether brick quite well.

i love the idea and i do believe that mc needs to add or change the fortress in some way beacuse it is so bland and it has been in the game for like 10 years so as things age they change, and i think it has been enough time and the fortress has to change and some ideas are,

    - new mobs (only in the fortress)

    -new blocks

    -a new design

    - and make it look like the new neather!

    #maketheneathergreatagan

    thanks:)

It needs to look more like an evil castle or as its name suggests a fortress at the moment it looks like a bad looking prison.

As now there are many new nether blocks coming, use them in nether fortresses. The old nether fortresses are very boring and no one goes there after getting the blaze rods. Make them like bastion, but instead of blackstone, focus on nether bricks.

I think that the new Nether Fortress should have better treasure rooms, because in the current one you really just have to find the treasure and it is yours. I designed one that I think looks good

You would come into a room that looks something like this:

Then if you had a fire resistance potion you would go down one of the lava fountains into this room, where you would find the treasure.

Here are my general ideas on what kind of areas the New Nether Fortress will have.

    • Entrance- A stairwell leading up to the main bridge. Can be completely intact or partially broken
    • Main Bridge- A long bridge suspension that connects the entrance and the Grand Hall.
    • Grand Hall- Upgrading the Lava Well room into a larger room that connects the other structures via minor bridges
    • Minor Bridges- Your regular bridge from the old nether but maybe update its look, connects to the Spires, may appear as intact or broken
    • Spires- Your typical tower area in the old fortress with the sideway blocky stairs connecting different levels but updated
    • Stairwells- Your typical staircase with the nether wart patches but updated
    • Blaze Spawner Deck- Just update the look
    • Viewing Deck- The 'viewing deck in the old nether but updated looks, Should not generate inside the netherrack area and only in the open area
    • Crimson Garden Deck- An open room with a few Crimson Forest vegetation, Hoglins may spawn
    • Warped Garden Deck- Same as Crimson Garden Deck but with Warped Forest vegetation.
    • Ruined Portal Room- Located at the lava ocean level, This is where a Ruined Portal generates. One per fortress.
    • Treasure Room- A grand room filled with chests of good loot. Guarded heavily by mobs. Hard to spot from the outside
    • Brewing Room- A small room with a single brewing stand. A new piglin variant ala witch guards it. Gets mad if you break or use a brewing stand. Barters are potion related only.

No piglins just make use of new nether brick variants and soul fire lanterns and keep them the same shape.

I really like this idea, i think there could a mini boss located within a certain percentage of fortresses as well as having a tiny bit more loot than before

They should also use cracked, chiseled and red nether bricks.

This is a great idea as current nether fortresses look nothing more than bridges. Perhaps there could be a jail room where piglins are held to really show the hostility between the piglins and wither skeletons and there could be a lava port area filled with wither skeleton/strider jockeys. Imagine it: You obtained all the treasures and blaze rods form the fortress and planning to get back to the overworld via strider. You ride on your strider. Then you hear weird noises behind you and you turn around only to see a wither skeleton on a strider chase you.

Edit: The port area can also have skeleton/strider jockeys that have enchanted bows.
