Why?-
In Minecraft there are different kinds of weapon classes. The Swords and Axes are in the Melee Class, the Bow and the Crossbow are in the Ranged Class, and the Trident is in a class of its own, since it is for both ranged and melee combat. Every other class, besides the Trident has more then one weapon variant. The problem with the Trident is it is VERY rare, and after you get it you have to go through the process of mending it before you can even use it. The idea of Riptide and Channeling is really cool and definitely a great reward for getting such a rare item, but I had a different idea. What if there was a new weapon added to the Trident's Class? How about a Javelin? Tridents are really nice and all, but they have no crafting recipe and aren’t at all the easiest to obtain. The Javelin wouldn’t be as OP as the Trident, of course, but it would still be balanced.
Obtaining a Javelin-
*Remember that this section is just a concept for how the Javelin could be obtained
Unlike the Trident, the Javelin would actually have a crafting recipe. The concept I've come up with is simple. Since swords and axes have different variants depending on ores, we should not do that. Quartz has been used to create weapons in the real world. So I think that Nether Quartz should be used for the tip of the spear. Then there's the guard part that surrounds the tip of the spear, this could also help the Javelin dig into surfaces when it is thrown at a block. Since Gold tools and armor aren't the most common things people use, the guard could be made out of gold. Part of the shaft for the javelin would be made out of stick like most tools. Then the other part of the javelin's shaft could be made of a blaze rod, because it looks sturdy. Requiring Nether Quartz and a Blaze Rod would make the Javelin a post Nether Portal item. We haven't had a weapon that is dedicated to the Nether yet.

Javelin Weapon Statistics-
The Javelin would definitely not be as powerful as a Trident, but it should be at least a bit more powerful than an unenchanted Diamond Sword. It could do 8 Attack damage during Melee attacks, and 7 Attack Damage during Ranged attacks. The Javelin would have the same attack speed as the Trident. It could have around 150 points of durability. The Javelin would not work like the Trident does underwater, because it wouldn’t defy water physics like the Trident does because that is a thing that it makes sense for only the Trident to have since it's not a craftable item.
Javelin Enchantments-
Since the Javelin is of the Trident Class, it should at least have access to the Impaling enchantment. Something the Javelin wouldn’t have access to is enchantments such as Riptide and Channeling, like how the Crossbow doesn’t have access to Infinity despite being in the same class as the Bow, and the Crossbow has new enchantments the normal Bow doesn’t have access to the enchantments Quick Charge and Multishot. I think a similar theme would go for the Trident and the Javelin. So the Javelin would have mutually exclusive enchantments, here's a few ideas for enchantments that I had.
The first of the Javelin’s mutually exclusive Enchantments I've thought of for the Javelin is Grappling, where when you throw the Javelin it would leave a rope behind it, that rope would pull you towards wherever the Javelin lands. If the Javelin were to hit a wall or ledge, you would land against the edge of it so that instead of falling to your death, you could instead at least be able to save yourself by placing blocks below you or by mining to the top of the wall. If your Javelin were to hit a mob or another player while your Javelin has the Grappling enchantment, it would leave a rope behind it which brings you directly to the mob or player you hit, but it would still give you enough time to bring out a Melee Weapon or a Shield to give your foe a surprise attack, or to protect yourself from being harmed by one of their melee or ranged attacks. It should take around 5 seconds to reach your destination. There would be only 1 level of Grappling. Its basically Loyalty, but instead of the Trident coming back to you, you would instead be pulled towards the Javelin.
The second enchantment exclusive I've thought of for the Javelin is Quaking. Whenever the Javelin is thrown at the ground or a wall, every mob and player in a five block radius would be launched up by 3 blocks. There would be two levels of quaking. Quaking II would extend the block radius from 3 blocks to 5 blocks.
The third enchantment exclusive I've thought of for the Javelin is Petrified. Whenever you hit an enemy with a Javelin enchanted with Petrified, for 3 seconds the enemy will be unable to move or attack. There would be 4 levels of Petrified, each level would add on 3 seconds to how long the enemy is immobilized from walking and attacking.
The final exclusive enchantment I've thought of for the Javelin is Lunge. Lunge would kind of be a worse version of Riptide. Lunge would well, lunge you 5 blocks in whatever direction you look. You would do the Javelin’s normal ranged damage to any entity you hit with a Javelin enchanted with Lunge. There would be three levels of Lunge, Level II would lunge the player 7 blocks and Lunge III would lunge the player 9 blocks. Lunge would only lunge you ¼ of the blocks that it normally lunges you while you are underwater. If you use lunge for vertical distance, you'll be able to activate an Elytra and fly away, like you can with Riptide in water.
*The Javelin would be compatible with Unbreaking and Mending, like all of the other weapons and tools.
*Lunge would be incompatible with Grappling and Quaking since you don’t let go of your Javelin with Lunge, since Grappling and Quaking require that you throw your Javelin in order for the enchantments to be function.
*When Petrified and Quaking are both on the same Javelin, if you throw the Javelin towards the ground all mobs and players in the radius should be launched up in the air (the amount of blocks still is determined by Quaking's level) and also make the players/mobs unable to move and attack, so if a player needs a quick getaway or is ambushed, they can escape quickly without any problem.
